NEW CONCORD, OHIO, May 28, 2008 - Muskingum sophomore catcher Brock Whiteman's post-season honors recognition continued Wednesday by being named Third Team Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association All-American.
Whiteman, who earlier this month became the first-ever Muskie to receive the Ohio Athletic Conference Jack Rafeld Player of the Year Award, ranks 20th in NCAA Division III in doubles, 25th in total bases, 25th in slugging percentage and 30th in batting average. Whiteman led the rugged OAC this season in batting average (.450), RBI's (51) and in total bases (117) and was second in doubles (19) and home runs (9). He logged 18 multiple hit games, 11 multiple RBI games and registered a team-high 14-game hitting streak during the year.
Whiteman has previously been honored with First Team Rawlings/ABCA All-Mideast Region, First Team All-OAC, Third Team All-American D3baseball.com and First Team ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District IV accolades.
This marks the second time in Muskingum baseball history that a Muskie has garnered All-America honors (Gary Thompson - 1992 - Third Team).
