Undergraduate Scholarship Provisions
Scholarship & Award Provisions
- Students must be enrolled on a full-time basis in order to receive academic scholarships, other Muskingum awards, performance awards, or awards of circumstance.
- Other than the John Glenn Scholarship, which is valued at full tuition, all academic scholarships, awards, and awards of circumstance amounts remain constant for the duration of a students attendance at Muskingum. Performance awards may vary based on level of participation. Annual scholarship and award amounts are disbursed to the students account in equal semester installments.
- Academic scholarships (John Glenn, Presidential, Faculty, Science Division) are automatically renewed each year provided that the student maintains a minimum 3.0 (B) cumulative grade average. Special Acknowledgment Awards require a 2.5 GPA for renewal, and other Muskingum Awards require that students be making satisfactory academic progress. Standards for renewal of performance awards are determined by the respective academic department.
- The standard duration of scholarships and awards is four years, or eight regular (fall & spring) semesters. Permission to use the scholarship or award beyond the eight semester limit may be granted on a case-by-case basis.
- Scholarships and awards may be applied toward summer term attendance only in cases where the summer term serves as a substitute for one of the regular eight semesters. In those cases the award amount is prorated in accordance with summer term tuition charges.
- For 2008-09, students may receive total non-need financial assistance from Muskingum College up to the limits defined below:
- Recipients of Presidential Scholarships may receive Science Division Scholarships, Performance Awards (Art, Music, Print or Broadcast Journalism, Forensics and Theatre) and Awards of Circumstance (Appalachian Regional, Alumni, Presbyterian, Clergy, Sibling and General Motors/EEOC awards) in addition to the Presidential Scholarship up to a yearly total of $15,000,
or $16,000
for students receiving the Sibling Grant.
- Recipients of Faculty Scholarships may receive Science Division Scholarships, Performance Awards (Art, Music, Print or Broadcast Journalism, Forensics and Theatre) and Awards of Circumstance (Appalachian Regional, Alumni, Presbyterian, Clergy, Sibling and General Motors/EEOC awards) in addition to the Faculty Scholarship up to a yearly total of $13,000, or $14,000 for students receiving the Sibling Grant.
- Students are eligible to be considered for need-based financial assistance in addition to scholarships and awards, although academic and other awards must be included as resources in the construction of a financial aid package. To be considered for need-based financial aid students must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) with the federal processor and submit signed copies of student and parent current year federal tax returns to the Muskingum College Office of Student Financial Services.
Note: In cases where Academic Scholarships, other Muskingum Awards, Performance Awards or Awards of Circumstance are made or increased after a need-based financial aid package has been awarded, the total increase in Muskingum-funded aid is limited to $500 (for a single increase or additional award), or $1,000 (for multiple increases or additional awards).
