Muskingum announces newest inductees of Athletic Hall of Fame
NEW CONCORD, OHIO, October 13, 2008 - The Muskingum College Athletic Hall of Fame will admit four new members in its annual induction ceremony on October 18. The event will be held in the Recreation Center on campus as part of Muskingum's Homecoming Weekend. Joining the Hall of Fame will be Carrie (Lyons) Jones '99, Elizabeth (Schafer) Dixon '99, Mike Mohler '98 and John Thomas '84.
The honorees will also be honored during halftime at the Homecoming football game against Baldwin-Wallace College, which kicks off at McConagha Stadium at 1:30 p.m. They will join 133 other Muskies who have been selected for this prestigious honor in the last 28 years.
Carrie (Lyons) Jones – Volleyball – 1999
Jones was a two-time First Team All-Ohio Athletic Conference honoree, co-captain and OAC Player of the Year. She was First Team All-Great Lakes Region, an Academic All-American and three-time Academic All-OAC selection. Jones was named the Muskingum William F. Lange Female Freshman Athlete of the Year and the Muskingum Barbara Steiner Senior Female Athlete of the Year. She ranks third all-time at Muskingum in kills (1,353) and seventh all-time for kills in a game (24). Jones helped lead the Muskies to three NCAA Tournaments.
Elizabeth (Schafer) Dixon – Women's Basketball – 1999
Dixon was a three-time All-American and three-time First Team All-Ohio Athletic Conference honoree. She was named the Helen Ludwig Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Year and the Muskingum Barbara Steiner Senior Female Athlete of the Year. Dixon ranks second all-time at Muskingum with 1,709 career points and ranks first all-time for highest scoring average in a season (21.7), most rebounds in a season (328), highest rebounding average in a season (12.1), most rebounds in a career (978) and highest rebounding average for a career (9.98).
Mike Mohler – Baseball – 1998
Mohler was a pre-season All-American and led the Ohio Athletic Conference in both batting average and runs scored. He was a two-time All-OAC honoree and two-time All-Region selection. Mohler holds the Muskingum career batting average record (.400) and was named the Muskingum William G. Moore Senior Male Athlete of the Year. He ranks second all-time at Muskingum in career hits (202), runs scored (137) and doubles (44). He ranks seventh in career at-bats (505) and 10th in career RBI (105).
John Thomas – Football – 1984
Thomas was an All-American and two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference honoree. He was named the Most Valuable Offensive Player and served as team captain. Thomas played both defensive tackle and offensive guard. He was a four-year starter and letterwinner for the Fighting Muskies.
