David Kirby
Head Coach

David Kirby begins his third season as the head men's golf coach at Muskingum College. During this period, Kirby has compiled a 210-79 (.727 winning percentage) overall record and a 78-10-2 (.867) mark in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

The Fighting Muskies were nearly unbeatable in the spring of 2003, as they swept through OAC opponents, going a perfect 20-0 in regular season contests. Along the way, they captured tournament championships at Wooster and Ohio Wesleyan, while posting a near-perfect overall record of 45-1 in the month of April.

Following this impressive April run, Muskingum vaulted to the top of the rankings in the Great Lakes Region, earning an automatic bid to their third straight NCAA tournament. This marked the first time in school history that the Muskie golfers were ranked #1 heading in the NCAA Championships.

The Fighting Muskies concluded the season ranked 13th in the nation, and in the process, set school records for wins in a season (116) and a regular-season winning percentage (.821).

On the national level, Muskingum was among the best in several statistical categories. The Fighting Muskies were ranked 3rd in Division III in fairway percentage (.614), 4th in the nation in greens in regulation (.539) and 8th in putts per green in regulation (1.984)

In 2003, Kirby was named Great Lakes Regional Coach of the Year by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and OAC Coach of the Year by his peers for his teams accomplishments during the season.

Kirby graduated cum laude from West Virginia University in 1990 with a bachelor's degree in physical education. He earned master's degrees in physical education (1995) and athletic training (1997) from West Virginia University, as well.

In addition to serving as the head men's golf coach, Kirby serves on the NCAA Division III regional selection committee and is the secretary of the OAC golf coaches committee. He was recently appointed to the Division III coaches poll committee and is one of four regional representatives on the voting panel.

Kirby is also the assistant men's basketball coach and a lecturer in the health and physical education department at Muskingum College. He and his wife Amanda, and their son Elliott, reside in Cambridge.
