Muskies take seventh at OAC Championships

NEW CONCORD, OHIO, April 25, 2008 - The Muskingum College men's golf team finished in seventh place at the Ohio Athletic Championships held at Colonial Golfer's Club after posting a two-day team score of 675 (340-335).

The Muskies were led by senior Tony O'Linn, who finished 14th in the field after finishing the event with a score of 160 (80-80). Junior Aaron Neff finished 24th in the tournament with a two-day score of 166 (85-81). Following Neff was freshman J.J. Mickey who posted a score of 173 (87-86) to finish 34th. Freshman Corey Papcun continued the scoring with a total of 177 (88-89) to finish 39th. Sophomore Josh Coyler ended the tournament tied for 40th with a 178 (90-88).

"We didn't play real well, there is no way around that, but with that said, I'm very proud of the way our guys kept their heads and finished out the tournament with class," said Muskingum Head Coach Dave Kirby.

Mount Union College won the championship for the second straight year with a score of 620 (307-313). Medalist honors went to Heidelberg College's Zach Koinis, who posted a score of 151 (76-75).

"We didn't end the season how we wanted to, but we won't let one tournament affect our spring season, which was successful," said Kirby. "The guys hung in there and overcame a lot of adversity today, and we will remember that much longer than we will the scores."

With the conclusion of the tournament, the Muskies end their season, but look forward to what should be a bright future.
