Newberry and Muskingum to be featured on CBS Sports NCAA Spring Championships highlight show

NEW CONCORD, OHIO, June 20, 2008 - Muskingum College softball Head Coach Donna Newberry, the all-time winningest coach in Division III and National Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame December 2008 inductee, will be featured nationally on the CBS Sports NCAA Spring Championships Highlight show scheduled to air on Sunday, June 22, at 2:00 p.m. on WBNS-10TV Columbus. The show will also air on all CBS affiliates around the country.

The Newberry feature will run between 2:00-3:00 p.m. and will focus on her courageous battle with breast cancer and Muskingum's title quest at the 2008 World Series.

This marks the third time that Muskingum's softball program has been featured on the national highlight show. In 2004, Newberry was featured for her annual summer educational journeys and Muskingum's 2004 World Series appearance. Her journeys included trips to Guyana and South America, where she taught the sport of softball to the natives, Outward Bound in Colorado, the Betty Ford Center in Palm Springs, California, and Alaska to live with the Kuyukon Indians. In 2006, All-American pitcher Erica Hoyt was featured for her accomplishments on the field, her volunteer work with SCORE International in the Dominican Republic and Muskingum's run at the 2006 World Series.

The Muskies ended their outstanding season with a 41-12 overall record, which included winning their 11th straight Ohio Athletic Conference title and capturing their eighth NCAA Division III Regional Championship in New Jersey en route to advancing to their eighth Division III World Series. Muskingum's 53 games played tied the school record set by the 2001 National Championship squad for most games played in a season. Muskingum concluded its championship run ranked fifth in the country in the final NFCA Division III Top 25 Poll.
