Walters, Bailey and Smith claim OAC Championships
NEW CONCORD, OHIO, April 26, 2008 - Muskingum College senior JD Walters, freshman Demetrius Bailey and senior Amanda Smith all won Ohio Athletic Conference Championships and claimed All-OAC honors at the OAC Outdoor T&F Championships hosted by Wilmington College Saturday. Overall, the Muskie men placed eighth in the 10-team field, while the women finished 10th.

For the men, Walters finished first in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a Muskingum record time of 9:28.79. This marks the second straight year that Walters has won the OAC Championship in the steeplechase. Bailey took first in the triple jump with a jump NCAA Provisional qualifying jump of 46-04.25. The 4x400 meter relay team finished fourth with a time of 3:25.77. The team consisted of seniors Brett Vermillion, Cody Welch, Jim Gatti, and freshman Elric Neuhart. The 4x100 meter relay team finished fifth with a time of 43.68 seconds. The team consisted of Bailey, Vermillion, Neuhart and senior Caleb Fuller. Fuller also placed seventh in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.28 seconds.
For the women, Smith finished first in the high jump with a jump of 5-03.75. Junior Deanna Dobos placed third in the 400 meter dash and sixth in the 200 meter dash with a times of 58.78 and 26.87, respectively. Dobos earned All-OAC accolades with her third place finish in the 200. Junior Princess Tarrance placed seventh in the shot put with a throw of 11.63 meters. Sophomore Kelley Crater placed seventh in the javelin with a throw of 31.90 meters.
The Muskingum College Track and Field teams will be back in action on Saturday, May 3, when they compete at the Ohio University Invitational.
