Course Outline/Schedule

Course Description and Objectives: Introduction to Psychology presents basic concepts in the scientific study of behavior including motivation, sensation, perception, learning, cognition, development, social, and personality.

Text: The single most important item you need in order to succeed in this class is the textbook. This semester we will be using "Psychology (7th ed)" by David Myers which can be purchased in the College Bookstore. A copy of the student study guide will be put on reserve in the library. On-line study material is also available for your use from the publisher.

Evaluation

Your grade in the class will be based on your performance on 6 exams and 8 quizzes covering material from both the text and lecture. Your regular attendance at class, attendance at special events, contribution to classroom discussion, and written reactions are also important parts of this course and will directly affect your grade.

If for any reason you are unable to take a quiz or an exam at the scheduled time, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to inform me (by phone or email) in advance. Students are expected to make arrangements with me to take the exam at an alternate time prior to the next class meeting.

Points:

Grade: The letter grade you receive will be based on a percent correct basis (of 800 possible points) using the following scale:
Extra Credit: In this class students may receive extra credit by participating in research projects or other selected opportunities within the department. For 2 hours participation, students will have their final grade in the class raised by a grade (e.g., a B+ will be raised to an A-).
