Mission of the resource center and the Modern Language Department
The Morehead Language lab‘s four primary functions: 
• To provide Muskingum College students access to materials for the study of language and culture. Audio and computer workstations are available for onsite work. 
• To promote the development of new materials for the learning of language and culture by the faculty of the department of modern languages. Tools include computer workstations, PAL/NTSC video machines, audio digitizing capability and media-related software. 
• To facilitate second-language acquisition via software, DVD, VHS and audio cassettes. 
• To serve as a technology-enhanced classroom for the department of modern languages. 
Equipment
• 25 PC workstations with DVD drives. All workstations equipped for sound and multi-lingual word processing. All workstations include audiocassette decks.
• Multi-region/multi-standard DVD player, multi-standard VHS players, a laserdisc player, multi-region TVs, and DVD players are available for students and instructors. An instructor workstation allows for projection of data or video. 
• Audio, videocassettes, laserdiscs, electronic dictionaries, software and courseware, audio CDs, and CD-ROMs for language learning. 
• Laser Printer.
• Foreign Language DVD media library
• Web based instructional resource center for French, German, Spanish and ESL
• SONY Vocalist installed on each computer for digital audio recording

Availability
• Students, faculty or staff have access to the lab.

Faculty
• The language lab will have designated hours for class instruction. Faculty have the option of teaching their classes in the language lab once or twice a week. 

Lab Rules
• No drinking or eating in the lab.
• Students using the lab sign their name on a roster
• Students leaving the lab for an extended period of time will be logged out. 
• Students cannot remove materials from the lab.
• Students not adhering to the lab rules may be asked to leave.

• Duplication of audio tapes
• Distribution of tapes for student use in the lab. 
• Recording audio masters 
• Classroom labs may be reserved for whole class instruction. 
• Video conversion
• Testing 
• Workshops for faculty and language assistants

Policies
While the Morehead Language Lab is the primary resource center of the Modern Language Department, it is available to the Muskingum College Community. Its primary focus entails the support of teaching foreign languages, literatures, and cultures. Students can use computers to browse the internet, write papers, work on class assignments, and print documents.
